How to: Add custom template to "Open lines in excel" for general journals (Part 1)

 I have seen many ask this question on forums so I decided to blog about it. I will put the blog in 2 parts as below:

1. How to update the Existing Template of Ledger Journal Template

2. How to make a new template available on 'Open in Excel'

So in this blog, we will cover how to update the existing template.


You need to download the current template from the system. 

To do that go to Organisation administration -> Setup-> Office integration -> Document templates.

The form looks like below: filter on the template 'LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate' and download it. 

Downloaded template will come with name like "LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX". 

Rename this file to 'LedgerJournalLineEntryTemplate'.

Update the template as per your need.

Go to Document template form and click on New. A dialog box will come, browse the updated file and upload it. The rest of the data will be auto-populated. Click OK.


You will be asked if you want to replace the existing template. 

Click Yes. you will see defined by as 'Override'.

Now if you click 'Oen in Excel' from General journal form. custom temple will be opened. 

Here we have updated the existing temple. In the next post, I will let you know how to add new template.

How to: Solve issue when DVT script for service model MRApplicationService on machine XXX failed

I was running binary update from LCS when my deployment failed. The step which failed had a description " DVT script for service model MRApplicationService on machine XXX failed" When I checked the log, It was showing "Financial Reporting DVTs ran with 2 failures". To resolve it, I just reset the DataMart and resumed the deployment from LCS which then completed successfully. How to: Display individual financial dimension value in grid control

To display inventory dimensions in the grid we have control of dimension display which can be set up as per the requirement.  But there is no control in D365FO to display financial dimensions in grid control.  There are 2 ways it can be done.  1. Create display methods to display particular financial dimensions like the below method which displays division.
